Amma has been invited
to the Parliament of World's Religions, which will take place from
7th through 13th of this month in Barcelona, Spain. Amma
will deliver the keynote address during the closing plenary on 13th
evening.
Amma will address a gathering of about 5,000 people of diverse
traditions on the theme of 'Pathways to Peace: the wisdom of listening,
the power of commitment.'
The 2004 Parliament of the World’s Religions is organized
by the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions (CPWR),
in partnership with the Universal Forum of Cultures – Barcelona
2004, and in association with the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia.
The history of the CPWR dates back to 1893 when the Parliament
had marked the first formal gathering of representatives of eastern
and western spiritual traditions. Today it is recognized as the
occasion of the birth of formal inter-religious dialogue worldwide.
The Council of the Parliament of World Religions is convening this
2004 session as a signature event to the Universal Forum of Cultures,
a 141 day event, a major International program. The Parliament that
starts from July 7th shall conclude on July 13th and is expected
to have in attendance some of the key world religious leaders. This
is the second time that Her Holiness Mata Amritanandamayi Devi shall
be addressing the Parliament of World Religions. In 1993
Amma was invited to address the Parliament’s Centenary Celebrations
at Chicago.
