Where: S.O.C.H. – So. Oakland Center for the Homeless, Unity Church in Royal Oak, MI

when: every Weds. morning during the winter months the center is open (Dec. thru March)

SOCH is open in the coldest winter months and provides shelter, food, clothing and social services to those most in need. This day center for the homeless provides a warm place to stay in the daytime after the morning shelters empty. Breakfast and lunch are provided along with many crucial services. In addition to the weekly breakfast, our Michigan Amma Center holds an annual drive to contribute items requested by the center throughout the month of January. Warm clothing, hygiene items, medicines and medical supplies, food, necessary paper products and office supplies are provided. The volunteer staff often express awe and gratitude for the items that are contributed.

The weekly breakfast includes favorites such as hot grits with trimmings, eggs, juice and fruit. The grits were found to be far more popular than the organic oats that were first tried. The guests of the center are always gracious and appreciative. One man said "you girls coming are the highlight of my week". Of course both men and women are welcome to volunteer.
